Hope and Healing for Kids Who Self-Injure

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule and see who's attending!

Self-injury is no longer a rare psychological oddity touching a few fringe kids in someone else’s youth group. It’s an all-too-common expression of the intense emotions some students feel, and most of us don’t know what to do when we encounter it. This will not be a feel-good session with a neat and tidy solution. The topic is graphic, the images messy, and the details unsettling—but we must acknowledge the issue. We’ll hear the stories of students who use cutting, carving, burning, and other self-injurious behaviors to cope with what’s going on inside. We’ll learn what drives their unusual behaviors, and we’ll explore some of the practical dos and don’ts to keep in mind when students share their struggles with us.
