Inspired by Victor Hugo’s Les Miserables and Thomas Merton, and distilled for today’s spirituality. The contemplative life is not just for the monastics—it’s for ordinary people, such as Victor Hugo’s Jean Valjean, whose encounter with the bishop furthered his spiritual formation journey. We’ll explore ways to reduce our need for pleasure, comfort, prestige, and success in order to pursue union with Christ as Merton suggested in The Inner Experience.
